Family of Three Dies in Aranguez Blaze

A family of three is dead following a fire in Aranguez this morning.

While fire officials are still on the scene, from initial information, the deceased have been identified as 70-year-old Rajkumar Singh, his 68-year-old wife Leela Singh, and their 35-year-old son, Shiva Singh.

The Express was told that at about 3a.m. today, fire officers received a call that a two-storey building was well alit along Samaroo Street West, Aranguez.

Appliances from the Wrightson Road Head Quarters and the San Juan Fire Station responded, and when officers arrived, they found the building on fire.

The officers worked assiduously to contain the blaze, and prevented it from spreading to other structures.

However, when examining the structure, they found the bodies of the Singh family upstairs.

The family appeared to have been trapped in the upper floor of the apartment.

Fire officers were also told that another tenant, a mother and her child, who occupied the ground floor, were also at home at the time of the fire. However, they were alerted by neighbours, and were able to be safely evacuated.

No cause of the blaze has yet been established.
