The environmental lobby Fisherman and Friends of the Sea(FFSO) has challenged the Environmental Management Authority's(EMA) decision to issue a certificate of clearance or CEC to the Ministry of Works and NIDCO for the construction of a five thousand metre highway starting at Cumuto Main Road and ending at Guaico Trace Sangre Grande.

While the matter is still engaging the court's attention, TV6 News obtained documents showing that the technical team of the EMA had raised strong objections in granting a CEC for the project back in June.
