Top Cop Speaks on Power of Arrest

The police chief and the police association appear to be at odds over a military leader's call for powers of arrest for Defence Force personnel.
A Police Association spokesman told radio station i95.5fm today that such a proposal was reckless as the role of the Police Service must be kept separate from the Defence Force.

But, at a news conference later, Acting Commissioner of Police Stephen Williams was more diplomatic saying the Chief of Defence Staff's assertions that the Regiment should be allowed to join the crime fight in earnest are his rightful opinion.
