GOV'T BOWS TO PRESSURE
The Government bows to public pressure and convenes the House of Representatives to sit tomorrow to repeal Section 34 of the Administration of Justice (Indictable Proceedings) Act 2011.
Legal opinion was that, under the act, former ministers and financiers of the UNC could walk free on fraud charges involving tens of millions of dollars.
This was announced today while the Opposition, People's National Movement held a news conference in which it claimed that the government prematurely and partially proclaimed section 34.3 of the act with no good motive.
