CHILD MARRIAGE DEBATE BEGINS

After months of vigorous public debate, consultation the issue of child marriage is finally in the parliament. 
Attorney general Faris al-Rawi hit the Upper House with some shocking statistics. In Trinidad and Tobago, within the last twenty years, men as old as fifty-two years old, have been getting married to girls as young as eleven. 

In piloting the changes to the Marriage Acts, he laid the responsibility to address the situation squarely on all parliamentarians while the Opposition brought in a temporary senator to debate that the Marriage acts should be left alone.
