Mile relay squad in medal hunt

By Donstan Bonn

Trinidad and Tobago's (T&T) men's 4 x 400m relay squad set a new national record to qualify for the mile relay final at London 2012.

Men's 400 metres bronze medallist Lalonde Gordon, Jarrin Solomon, Ade Alleyne-Forte and Deon Lendore clocked three minutes, 00.38 seconds to top heat 1 ahead of Great Britain (3:00.38) and Cuba (3:00.55), and secure a berth in the medal race.

The time eclipsed the 3:00.45 mark set by Gordon, Solomon, Lendore and Renny Quow at T&T's National Championships in June.

T&T will be running out of Lane 4 in Friday's championship race.

Following are the finalists (in order of time):

Bahamas 2:58.87

United States 2:58.87

Trinidad&Tobago 3:00.38

Great Britain 3:00.38

Cuba 3:00.55

Belgium 3:01.70

Russia 3:02.01

Venezuela 3:02.62
